I won an auction for a bunch of The Workbasket magazines, a big box of them! Not only do they have tatting, but also crochet, knitting, recipes, how-to on a lot of different topics and I found a couple of articles on rug hooking. Too bad they don't publish this neat little magazine anymore, it has a bit of something for everyone. Some them have a Junior Workbasket project in them, too cool! All of the magazines I got are from the 50's and 60's. I can't wait to try some of the patterns. I may even have to learn to knit hehe!

I finished an edging for a purple T-shirt and attached it last night. I purchased the thread from Lady Shuttlemaker, it's Tuscany in a size 80. The pattern is from a hankie I found in a box from one of my grandma's houses. The funny thing is my tatting friend Allison and I were looking at each others project and a round on her doily is the same pattern as my edging. She did a lovely job and hopefully she'll find a cool place to put it. Check out her blog to see the doily and our latest class project.

Next tatting class we are working with two colors, not sure what colors I'll choose, but I better get it decided. I can't wait for BEADS!! I have so many beads anytime I can use them or find homes for them it's a good thing.

Ikea Fun!! Look what I found!!

My girlfriends and I went to Ikea today. We had the day off work for Pres. Lincoln's birthday. Our kids, however, had to go to school!

I bought some really cool fabric in pink and cream stripes. The thread, found on Ebay is size 30 J&P Coats crochet thread. Three different pinks that match the fabric stripes pretty close. Who knew... tatting inspiration at Ikea. My mom has a very pretty bathroom this fabric might look good in. I think I'll find a cool edging pattern and make some decorative hand towels.

To the left is shown a stunning red doily I made instead of finishing my hooked rug. It needs to be stiffened and a home found for it, not the rug, the doily. hehe I was hoping to take the doily to tatting class to see what could be improved on.

I'm feeling a bit sad, my tatting class is canceled for tomorrow. Allison, my tatting friend & I are taking an intermediate class and our instructor Marlene is ill. Hopefully she'll feel better by next Sunday. One of the things we are going to learn is how to add beads! This is a good thing, there seem to be a lot of beads in my craft room and anything that helps me use them up is good. The class is very small, about 5 people, so far three of us from the tatting 1 class signed up for the next one. The other gal, does fiber arts too, so we all have something in common. The classes are held in a barn that has a class room. Quilting, rug hooking, basket weaving and other traditional American craft work classes are offered. They sell supplies too, which is nice because sometimes its hard to find what you need in our area. I like Handy Hands Tatting to order from, she ships quick and has a great selection of good stuff :) Micheal's and JoAnn's don't carry much for tatters.

Tomorrow is cleaning and cooking day. Cooking on Sunday for the upcoming week makes it easier to cook after work. I also try to do the prep work for the next evenings meal while the current meal is cooking. It helps get the meal done quicker so we aren't eating at 9 o'clock. I also make a note card with the food items that need to be used and plan my meals around that. Otherwise thing get lost in the fridge and we end up throwing food out. My grocery list goes on that card too. The ulterior motive here is the less time spent cleaning and cooking..... more time for tatting!

Fabulous February

February is here and cold. Spring will be most welcome when she gets here. I'm planning a small garden and am anxious to get things planted. Last year we had a front door garden rather than a kitchen door. Much easier to keep up with weed pulling when you pass the garden several times everyday.

I put the edging I was working on away and started a doily just to keep things interesting. The pattern is from the internet and called Rose's Round Robin. The next project I'm going to work on is a "UFO", a hooked rug I started a couple of years ago and need to finish.
Shouldn't take long....

Tatting is my current Fiber Art. Rug Hooking is my other craft of choice. I've made rugs for my mom, ex-father-in-law, friends and a couple for my home. Beading is another addiction and I would love to learn to weave someday.

Great-grandmother Daisey Horney (yes, that was her married name) tatted and I have her shuttles, I'm not sure, but I think she also needle tatted and probably crocheted too. My grandmother Gertrude knitted and crocheted and she taught me to crochet. Gertrude was an awesome seamstress too.

This is the edging I am working on now. When it's finished I'll sew it on a round cotton doily blank.
